Teacher at 'Hands-On' Daycare Fired for Slapping Child in Latest Incident Involving Troubled School

A teacher at a Montessori school in Chicago was immediately fired for slapping a child when she "lost her cool," potentially marking the second incident of abuse at the daycare in three weeks.

The incident occurred at the Guidepost Montessori School in Kildeer, Illinois, and the teacher responsible joined the staff just a few months ago, according to the school.

The school revealed she "lost her cool in a moment when she was setting limits and slapped one of the children."

"We immediately: (1) fired her, (2) called the child's parents, and (3) informed the Department of Children and Family Services. The individual was highly remorseful and immediately knew she was wrong, but also knew that it was something she could not come back from," the school continued, according to NBC Chicago.

Both Kildare police and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services are investigating the incident as well as another that took place three weeks ago.

Last month, a 3-year-old child returned home from Guidepost with bruises across his face and ear. The school told his parents he was injured on a slide, but they did not buy it and immediately removed their son from the Montessori.

"I think it is extremely unlikely that two incidents of violence happening in three weeks is a coincidence," the boy's father told NBC. "I think many parents have voiced a very concerning trend line. I think a lot of these staff are not qualified to be teachers."

He added he is "not surprised it happened again at this institution" but added he does "find it very troubling."

Montessori schools, located across the nation, offer a hands-on approach that allows students to choose their own pace for learning in a gentle environment.
