The 2013 Men's French Open tournament was looked upon as a tournament that would deliver a high level of entertainment as many of the world's best would be matched up against one another testing each player's level of confidence, poise and ability to succeed on the clay courts of Roland Garros. As the competition shifts into the semifinal round, it is safe to say that the 2013 field has lived up to expectations with many dominant players advancing deep into the tournament while a few upsets occurred, providing fans all the excitement they needed for another Grand Slam event.
Perhaps the biggest upset occurred in the quarterfinal round when France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga took down No. 2 seed, and 17-time major champion, Roger Federer in convincing fashion. Tsonga is now set to face Spain's David Ferrer in the semis.

Looking to advance to his first Grand Slam Final, 31-year-old David Ferrer may be playing the best tennis of his 13-year career. Disposing of Marinko Matosevic in the opening round, the tournament's No. 4 seed made quick work of fellow Spaniard Albert Montanes in the second round, upending his countryman 6-2, 6-1, 6-3. A showdown with South African Kevin Anderson was up next for Ferrer and after taking the opening set 6-3, Ferrer breezed through his opponent, winning 12 of the next 14 games en route to another three-set victory.
The quarterfinal match pitted Ferrer against another man from Spain, this time No. 32 Tommy Robredo. Looking to keep his perfect set streak alive, Ferrer dominated the opening frame, closing out Robredo 6-2. The 31-year-old Robredo didn't put much of a fight after dropping the opener as Ferrer stayed perfect in sets, closing out the opposition 6-1, 6-1.
While Ferrer was dominating his opponents, Jo Willie Tsonga didn't stumble during any of his matches either. Tsonga did fall to his upcoming semifinal opponent on clay courts in Rome three years ago but JWT is much more experienced now and has built up unbelievable strength in the service department, something that may be able to catapult him into the French final.
Tsonga opened the tournament with a quick three-set victory over Aljaz Bedene and followed it up with a 7-6 (8-6 tiebreak), 6-4, 6-3 second round win over Finland's Jarkko Nieminen. Looking to advance to his first major final since the 2008 Australian Open, Jo Willie defeated Jeremy Chardy in another three-set contest as he was now beginning to play lights out tennis on the strength of a strong service game and powerful forehands.
