It doesn’t get any better than this.
Arguably the greatest rivalry in NFL history gets renewed on Thanksgiving Day when the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins face off in an NFC East classic. Let’s preview the game and pick a winner in this much watch matchup.
Dallas Cowboys (9-1)
No Tony Romo, no problem. Jason Garrett’s squad has the best record in the NFL thanks to their young rookies led by Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott. Prescott looks like a veteran quarterback already with his 17 touchdown passes and two interceptions. He’s also making plays with his feet creating a dynamic dual-threat problem for opposing defenses.
The Cowboys offensive line has been incredible this season, and if they continue to open up holes and give Prescott time, they should be able to win their 10th consecutive game. As good as the Cowboys are playing, this is still big for them considering the NFC East has been so competitive this year.
The biggest test for the Cowboys will be their defense against the Redskins offense. The Redskins have the No. 2 ranked scoring offense in the league. Another key test for the Cowboys will be Dez Bryant against Josh Norman. Norman was on the Carolina Panthers team last year that annihilated the Cowboys on Thanksgiving, 33-14.
Washington Redskins (6-3-1)
This is much more of a must win game for the Redskins. They are three and a half games behind the Cowboys, and they have to avenge their Week 2 loss to them. If the Redskins lose this game, it’s going to be extremely difficult to overtake the Cowboys in the NFC East.
Kirk Cousins has to manage the game and not make critical mistakes. Time of possession is key because if he turns the ball over, that Cowboys ground game will take over. A big X-factor for this game is the health of one DeSean Jackson. Jackson is one of the best deep-threat wide receivers in the game, but he is questionable to play because of a shoulder injury.
Since losing to the Cowboys in Week 2, the Redskins have only lost one game, a Week 7 game to the Detroit Lions. If they beat the Cowboys, they will take over the No. 2 spot in the NFC East ahead of the New York Giants for the time being.
The last time the Cowboys and Redskins played each other on Turkey Day, the Redskins were victorious, 38-31, in 2012.
Schedule
The Cowboys and Redskins will kickoff on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. ET on FOX in Arlington, Texas. You can watch a live game stream here.
Prediction
What a game this should be. As previously stated, the Redskins need this one more, but the Cowboys are the team fighting for first place, and home-field advantage, in the NFC. If the Cowboys ground game gets going and they limit their mistakes, they should win with ease. But if the Redskins passing attack is on point, it will make the Cowboys a faster pace team, something they don’t to be. The Cowboys win in overtime thanks to a Dan Bailey field goal.
Cowboys win, 23-20 in overtime.
