Dad Tossed From School Board Meeting For Refusing To Wear Face Mask

The COVID-19 situation in various countries is different with some seeing a decrease in cases while others remain the same or worse. Just the same, wearing of faces masks is still in force – particularly indoors where group meetings are held.

This includes some schools where parents physically attend meetings. Security personnel are tasked to strictly enforce the wearing of masks although the effort is normally done through gentle reminders.

Although there are cases wherein some people would care less, it is easy to spot those who are unruly or may have just overlooked the reminder. But that does not appear to be the case over at a school in New York.

A father of two was captured on video being forcibly tossed out of school for now wearing a face mask during a school board meeting this week.

He was identified as Dave Calus who could be seen not wearing a mask at a board of education meeting in Webster on Tuesday, Feb. 8.

The video, which can be seen at the ROC for Educational Freedom Public Page, shows a security guard dragging Calus’ chair toward the backroom.

When the father gets up to confront the guard, he was pushed out a back door. Among those who saw it was a woman who filmed it and said that it was assault.

The incident came just a day before New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced an end to indoor mask mandates for businesses, citing a 93% drop in COVID-19 cases following the nationwide surge from the Omicron variant. However, the mandate remains in effect for schools and other state-run facilities.

Calus went to urgent care for evaluation after the incident. He revealed he was a bit sore at the incident but is overall ok when he spoke on the Kimberly’s revolution podcast.

“I went into the building without a mask on. I signed in and they said, ‘You need to wear a mask,’” he said on the podcast. “I said, ‘Thank you.’”

“I signed in, they handed me a mask — I did not put the mask on — and I put it in my pocket,” he added.

The Webster police department said Wednesday it is investigating the incident.

In a statement obtained by the WHEC, it was mentioned how visitors were reminded to wear masks in school buildings as mandated by the state. It appears Calus was reminded to put on his mask three times but he refused. He was also asked to leave the build but likewise refused which apparently led to the security guard resorting to measures in physically removing the father from the board meeting.
