A Texas father has been arrested after police found human remains in his kitchen which he told investigators belong to his son who died in 2018.
Police said they responded to a home in the 1200 block of South Merrill in New Boston on Tuesday night, March 29, after an out-of-town family member called in requesting a welfare check.
When officers asked the 67-year-old homeowner, David McMichael, if he knew why they were there, he "advised them it was because he had a body in his kitchen," the New Boston Police Department announced Wednesday.
He told the officers that the remains belonged to his son, Jason McMichael who passed away in May 2018.
During a search, officers found the skeletal remains lying on the kitchen floor.
The body was taken to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas for autopsy and further identification, police said.
"Right now, we're waiting on the report to come back from Southwestern Forensics Institute on the autopsy. Police are currently interviewing family members at the moment," said New Boston police spokeswoman Katie Jimenez, Fox News reported.
The father was arrested and charged with the abuse of a corpse. He was booked into the Bi-State Jail, where he remains in custody, according to records.
A similar incident was reported last month when a boy's corpse was reportedly found in a garage freezer after police officers found the child's mother held hostage by her abusive boyfriend in Las Vegas.
On Feb. 22, the authorities launched a homicide investigation after a young girl handed her elementary school teacher an alarming note from her mother claiming that her partner was holding her against her will inside their home.
The teacher who received the letter alerted authorities and a team of Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers began surveilling the family's home in the 4300 block of Saddle Brook Park Drive.
When police interrogated the woman, she stated that she had not seen her son since Dec. 11, 2021, and alleged that she had been suffering months of abuse at the hand of her 35-year-old boyfriend, identified as Brandon Toseland.
Following Toseland's arrest, the investigators searched his home and reportedly found the body of the woman's son in a freezer located in the house garage, where the kidnapping victim said she was not allowed to enter.
