The CW is feeling the success of it’s hugely popular teenaged aimed dramas, so much so that the network has provided early renewals for “Arrow,” “The Vampire Diaries” and it’s spinoff series “The Originals,” the network’s newcomer “Reign” will also being seeing a sophomore series, in addition to the veteran series “Supernatural” which will be celebrating it’s tenth season. "This season we've had great success with our new hit series 'The Originals' paired with 'Supernatural,' giving us our best Tuesday nights in years," CW President Mark Pedowitz said in a statement. "'The Vampire Diaries' is No. 2 in its time period in the young adult demos, and with 'Arrow' continuing to gain among young men, and 'Reign' growing its time period, we now have strong nights on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I'm very pleased to announce early pickups for all five series, and let our fans know they'll have more great drama to look forward to next season."
In addition to the renewal of it’s five most popular series, it seems like the CW will be trying it’s hand at another spin off, clearly hoping for similar success to that of “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” On Jan. 29, it was announced that “Supernatural” would be receiving it’s own spin off series and will be titled “Supernatural: Tribes” According to TV Guide, the brand new series will feature an ensemble cast of both human and monster leads, however the series will not feature any of it’s predecessors main cast, which could be good in order to separate themselves from the show, or could be it’s downfall because fans will have less of an incentive to watch both. In addition to the growing number of mystical and supernatural series for the CW “Reign” will enter it’s sophomore season, bringing the network a bit of historical flare which has increasingly grown in popularity since the success of HBO’s now infamous “Game of Thrones” adaptation.
“Reign” performed well in its inaugural season, as did “The Originals” garnering over 1.98 million and 2.23 million views respectively. The decision to create a “Supernatural” spin off series most likely came after the series celebrated a never before seen growth, jumping 88 percent in total viewers to 3.2 million viewers in its ninth season. Surprisingly “Arrow” caught the top CW spot following the fall TV season, becoming the network's most-watched series, averaging 3.9 million viewers. And finally, “The Vampire Diaries” remains the networks highest rated show in its fifth season, while also maintaining a fiercely loyal and perpetually growing fan base.
