Controversial Jamaican cult leader Kevin O. Smith died in a three-vehicle crash on Monday while on his way to be formally charged in connection with the murders of at least two congregants he reportedly killed in a “human sacrifice” ritual last week.
According to the Daily Beast, the nasty road accident took place on Monday morning while local police were transporting the Pathways International Kingdom Restoration Ministries leader from Montego Bay to Kingston, where he was supposed to be formally hit with the murder charges.
Senior Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, the Head of Jamaica’s Constabulary Forces communication unit, confirmed the death of Smith after the police car he was in crashed near the Bog Walk Gorge in the parish of Saint Catherine, Jamaica.
The accident also claimed the life of another police officer and left at least two cops wounded. First responders then rushed the victims to the nearby Linstead Hospital, where Smith was pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, the surviving police officers remain in the hospital for treatment after the tragedy saw the need for the occupants to be cut from the vehicle by members of the Jamaica Fire Brigade.
Last week's human sacrifice ritual at the Albion church led to the arrest of Smith after police were deployed to his religious compound in St, James amid reports of an ongoing gruesome cult tradition.
Two members of the religious group were already dead when police raided the building on Norwood Avenue in Montego Bay, St, James, with officers stumbling upon the victims, whose throats were slashed as a "human sacrifice."
Another member of the group was killed by the police during a stand-off.
Police began investigating “a case of double murder and three counts of wounding” shortly after the Oct. 17 incident, where more than 40 cult members have been captured so far.
The arrests also triggered searches in Smith’s luxury homes as further probes uncovered that on the night of the human sacrifice ritual, he was reportedly escorted from his Coral Gardens home to the church by a Jamaica Defence Force major, The Gleaner noted.
A copy of Smith's biography identifies him as “the former crown Ambassador of the Throne of Nubia Sheba, globe traveler to over 100 countries worldwide, and Yeshu’a Hamashiach end-time Prophet to the Nations."
