Another Republican lawmaker was on the receiving end of harsh responses while holding a town hall, as GOP elected officials face backlash over policies enacted or proposed by the Trump administration and, particularly, Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
The latest episode involved Rep. Harriet Hageman, from Wyoming, a ruby red state Trump comfortably won in the last election. Attendees were particularly angry at Musk, even chanting "Deport Elon!" as Hageman rejected social security would face cuts. "DOGE is not dismantling social security, and even with reconciliation we're not allowed to touch social security," she said as chants continued.
There was an abundance of heated moments. During another passage of the town hall, an attendee questioned the lawmaker on the plans to slash government spending related to farming programs.

"I worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, helping Wyoming family farmers deal with drought until I was fired a month ago in the mass firings despite only having high marks in my performance review. In a state where so many farmers rely on government programs for drought and disaster relief, Trump's plans to cut these programs and the people who administer them, coupled with the tariffs, will decimate Wyoming farms in rural communities. What are you doing about that?" said an attendee, who was promptly congratulated by the crowd.
"I disagree," said the lawmaker, a response that prompted loud jeers. "I'm well aware of what kind of programs are out there. It's so bizarre to me how obsessed you are with federal government," Hageman added at another moment of the town hall, a line that was also received by loud booing.
Hageman's experience is one of many faced by Republican lawmakers over the past days. Republican Rep. Chuck Edwards faced impassioned criticism and disapproval from constituents during a town hall in Asheville, North Carolina, last week as he voiced support for government policies.
Republican Rep. Mike Flood was also criticized while holding his first town hall since Donald Trump took office, with attendees erupting in "tax the rich" chants.
The event got heated especially after Flood highlighted the "need to go to a balanced budget" when replying to a question about cuts to the National Institutes of Health. The statement catalyzed heckling from the audience, which later erupted in "tax the rich" chants.
Firebrand South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace has refused to attend a town hall meeting she was invited to within her home state, blaming "paid" protestors she believes have been responsible for disrupting GOP-led town halls across the nation.
