Manchester United's incoming manager Erik ten Hag has reportedly given Cristiano Ronaldo the go signal to leave Old Trafford this summer.
He officially agreed to become the next Man Utd manager after signing a deal with the club bosses. Ten Hag has made it very clear that Ronaldo will not suit his style of play, suggesting that the Portuguese footballer is not part of his long-term plans for the club.
A lot of changes are expected to happen with the takeover of the new manager. As many as 10 players could leave with the Ajax head coach reportedly requesting full control over all of Man Utd’s transfer dealings and the selection of his backroom staff during negotiations with the Premier League side. Among the players expected to move out of Old Trafford are Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani and Jesse Lingard.
Meanwhile, ten Hag has given Ronaldo the green light to leave the club this summer. With ten Hag telling United chiefs that Ronaldo's age and "luxury status" ensure he will not be part of his plans.
The 37-year-old football star made a dramatic return to Man Utd last summer, signing a two-year deal with the option of an extended stay. Ronaldo has the choice to lengthen his United contract by an extra year, however, reports emerged that he has been considering his future with United since the start of 2022 as Old Trafford went through a series of inconsistencies and defeats. Man Utd have never been in the title position and they are known to finish this season without silver for the fifth time in a row. The team's Champions League qualification is also uncertain.
Ronaldo is considered a legendary figure at the club notwithstanding the several struggles he has had to go through this season. Despite making 18 goals, he has scored just four times in his last 13 appearances. Still, Ronaldo is Man Utd's top scorer this season.
Meanwhile, United officials have not consulted Ronaldo over the appointment of the 52-year-old Dutch professional after the five-time Ballon d'Or winner reportedly discouraged the club from making a move for Antonio Conte earlier in the season.
