As transfer rumors continue to circulate surrounding some of the biggest names in the game of soccer, many fans are wondering what the future holds for international superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. While some believe Ronaldo may return to Old Trafford to help guide Manchester United to continued success, others feel the star forward will remain with Real Madrid and at the very least finish out the 2 remaining years on his contract.

Coming off a season where he notched a total of 55 goals in 55 appearances with the Spanish club, the 28-year-old is still very much at the top of his game as he led Real Madrid to the 2012-2013 UEFA Champions League semifinal round. Despite falling to Borussia Dortmund in the two-leg semi, Ronaldo continued to show that he can lead any team on a season-by-season basis.

Possibly looking for a change of scenery, the Belfast Telegraph reports that Cristiano Ronaldo and his agent Jorge Mendes are set to meet with Manchester United, a team Ronaldo played for from 2003 through 2009. Interested in a possible return to Old Trafford, it is believed by those close to the situation that Ronaldo does have intentions to leave Real Madrid and that the only English club he'll sign with is Man U.

Looking to silence reports saying Ronaldo wants to finish his career with his former English club, Real president Florentino Perez told reporters that the star player will absolutely finish out his contract and that Ronaldo does not have wishes to depart his current squad.

"He has two years of contract left," Perez said. "He is happier every day here. He has no wish to leave Real Madrid and wants to end his career here. He wants to go into history as someone very important at Real Madrid."

In an attempt to entice the star forward to remain in Spain, El Pais reports that Perez offered Ronaldo a total of €14 per season in a deal that would keep him in Madrid through the 2018 season. Upping his salary from the €10.5 he earns now would certainly be enticing but the player and agent are mostly interested in contract talks that will earn the four-year Real Madrid star upwards of €20. In addition to his on-field earnings, Ronaldo also rakes in an additional €16m in commercial deals.

Learning of the comments made by Florentino Perez, Ronaldo posted on his Twitter page recently that he has not focused on any renewal with his present team and that any reports released that don't come from Cristiano directly should be considered false.

While it's hard to image Ronaldo leaving Real Madrid this offseason considering he still has 2 years left on his contract and the club seems content on giving him a raise, Manchester United fans would certainly love to see their former star return.
