As the Syrian war comes close to reaching its five-year mark, soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, a Save the Children global artist ambassador since 2012, is trying to raise awareness and call for help for the children who have been the most affected in the country’s deteriorating situation. In order to show his support, the Real Madrid player posted a photo on social media of him, his son, Cristiano Junior and a photo of soccer-loving Syrian refugee boy, named Ayman. “#SaveSyriasChildren like 5 years old Ayman who loves playing football as much as Cristiano Junior,” Ronaldo wrote.
Carolyn Miles, president and CEO of Save the Children says Ronaldo understands how vulnerable young children are having a son who is exactly the same age. “With Ronaldo’s help, we can keep the focus on the children of the Syrian war, many of whom have known nothing but war their entire life. After five years of this conflict, we don’t want the world to forget the children – they shouldn’t have to pay the price for the world’s inaction,” Miles insisted.
Save the Children recently released the new report “Childhood Under Siege,” which states that that more than 250,000 children have been in constant fear for their lives for many months in Syria's besieged areas. Parents testify to not only dealing with the psychological impact on children terrified of explosions, but the dire consequences of being deprived of food, basic medicine and clean water. Hopefully Cristiano’s 200+ millions of followers will donate and help the cause.
