Widely viewed as one of the best soccer players in the world - the top player in the game depending on where you live and who you root for - Real Madrid and Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo continues to entertain soccer fans across the globe. Whether it's his insane passing skills or the 28-year-old's ability to score almost at will, the international superstar continues to grow into one of the most popular figures in all of sports. Once again proving he is simply magnificent, Ronaldo displayed his superiority during a recent World Cup qualifying match.
Playing out of Europe's Group F, Portugal squared off with Northern Ireland last week in what was a crucial match for the Portuguese nationals. Currently trailing Russia by 1 point in the group, Portugal needed a win to maintain a top spot in the pool while also increasing its point total. The European division includes a total of 53 teams scattered across 9 groups. With 13 teams qualifying from the Europe division, wins are crucial, especially as qualifying matches near an end.
While Ronaldo recording a hat trick in a 4-2 Portugal victory was certainly impressive, the unbelievable and video game-type move he put on Northern Ireland midfielder Steven Davis was the play of the match. Twisting around his defender with complete control of the ball, Ronaldo juked himself away from Davis while the Southampton star quickly tried to regain his composure. Back-heeling the ball to a teammate at the end of the quick yet impressive play, Ronaldo reacted as if nothing out of the ordinary had occurred.
Ronaldo and Portugal will play their next World Cup Qualifying match on October 10 against Luxembourg.
