As if Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t have enough hardware already, he can now add the first person to receive 100 million “likes” on his Facebook fan page. The Real Madrid star posted a picture of the award on his Facebook account which looks similar to a silver bar and wrote that the trophy would be going into the Museu CR7 in his native Portugal.
Ronaldo is already the most popular player in the sport of soccer, and considered to be the best in the game alongside Lionel Messi. Facebook allows celebrities and teams to have fan pages where fans can “like” the page. Ronaldo trumped his closest soccer rivals as he easily became the first athlete to 100 million likes. Lionel Messi currently has 74 million and David Beckham has nearly 50 million.
To commemorate the social media achievement, Ronaldo uploaded a video tribute to himself which shows Ronaldo playing soccer from a teenager at Manchester United to scoring goals at his current club, Real Madrid.
“Since I was a little boy, I always dreamed about beautiful moments like this,” Ronaldo wrote on his tribute. “I’m proud to be one of the world’s most-liked public figures on Facebook.”
After the video tribute ended, Ronaldo revealed a number of posts with his son, and several of himself holding up trophies. He then looked directly at the camera and spoke candidly to his fans.
“Thank you for all the support, I’m really proud and I’m really happy to achieve this number,” the Portuguese star said. “Thank you very much.”
