Five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo is believed to be intrigued by Benni McCarthy's coaching skills.
McCarthy, who has joined Erik ten Hag's line of coaching staff, has been busy doing a series of training at the Carrington ground. In July, McCarthy, 44, was officially announced as Manchester United's new first team coach. Ronaldo, Cristian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez reportedly joined in McCarthy's sessions.
McCarthy was asked about his nature of work with the Portuguese footballer, as his particular focus is on working with the forwards at the club. He commented on his relationship with Ronaldo, saying, "So far it's been going good. I've had a few opportunities to work with [Cristiano] Ronaldo and the rest of the guys upfront and working on our finishing. But as the time goes by and things start getting more hectic with the Premier League schedule, I think I’ll have more time and find my feet and then I’ll have my work cut out for me."
The South African coach and former footballer has been coaching for almost a decade, working at Hibernian before landing managerial positions with Cape Town City and Amazulu. McCarthy is also recognized as the South Africa national team's all-time top scorer with 31 goals.
He has been doing great throughout his entire career; he previously played under Blackburn and West Ham in the Premier League. He was included in Jose Mourinho's Porto team that won the Champions League in May 2004.
McCarthy always wanted to play for Man Utd, and his role in the team definitely brought so much excitement and happiness to him." I'm just excited and happy to be here," he told MUTV. "How can you not be when you're standing in the Theatre of Dreams?"
Former Ajax boss Ten Hag also explained about McCartney's participation in Old Trafford. "There was still one place in our coaching staff that I wanted to fill. Someone with a different voice and Benni is that one. He has experience as a manager. He was a coach in the professional level and he was a former striker, a really successful striker as well."
