Chelsea has just a few hours to complete its summer transfer business, and football star Cristiano Ronaldo might finally move to the club after a late transfer request.
Ronaldo, 37, is putting the brakes on any potential Napoli move in the hope that Chelsea will make a last-minute call to agent Jorge Mendes regarding his transfer from Manchester United, reported Football.London. The Blues were heavily linked to Ronaldo earlier this summer. But Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel put the brakes on this potential deal as he didn't believe Ronaldo fit the right profile. Still, it was believed that Tuchel would reconsider his rejection if the deal with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang didn't come off.
Ronaldo performed well for the Red Devils last term in an individual sense. He netted 18 goals in the Premier League, but looking back now it seems like they were worse off with him in the team, according to Football 365. After Man Utd lost their first two games of this season, they looked better in recent wins against Liverpool and Southampton. Ronaldo was on the sidelines in these games.
As he looks to join a Champions League club, this summer, he has been linked with clubs around Europe. Till now, an offer has not come in and it looks like Ronaldo may be forced to stay at Old Trafford until January.
Journalist Ben Jacobs hinted that Mendes could reach out to Chelsea before the transfer window closes to look to seal the player’s Manchester United exit. Jacobs said that it wouldn’t remotely surprise him, should Aubameyang not arrive, if "Mendes makes one last attempt to get Chelsea to sign Cristiano Ronaldo." He noted that Tuchel’s position hasn’t changed, but "Chelsea’s attack hasn’t yet been as free-scoring or fluid as he would have hoped." So, according to him, a loan move for Ronaldo would "add instant goals."
According to Mirror, the Portuguese footballer is set to remain at Man Utd beyond deadline day after getting just one transfer offer this summer. The team's boss Erik ten Hag confirmed that Ronaldo isn't going anywhere. Only one formal approach was reportedly made for Ronaldo this summer. The offer came from Saudi Arabian outfit Al Hilal, but it was rejected as he doesn't want to leave European football.
