With almost 10,000 hours of flight time under his belt, a Boeing 747 pilot has opened up about some of the most bizarre, alien-like encounters he has had, The Daily Star reported.
Having logged 9,500 hours in the air, pilot Christian van Heijst has mentioned unusual technologies that hit 23,000 mph as well as other hypersonic sightings.
After the US government admitted to the existence of UFOs, Pilot Heijst "realized" that some of his odd, mysterious sky experiences might have been unidentified flying objects.
Along with some of the top pilots in the world, the 39-year-old flyer seems to have been "stunned" at sightings of unexplainable aerial objects.
While speaking to the media, the Netherlands-born Heijst said, "I realized that what they described sounded very much like some of the strange things I have seen years before.
"I always thought it was some 'military stuff' I had seen, but now it was possibly something else entirely that even stunned some of the best US military pilots on record," he added.
With two decades of experience, the pilot has claimed a "handful" of such sightings during his extensive time in the air.
He said, "If I see something that catches my eye, I immediately want to know if it is another airplane, something weather-related, military, or anything else that might jeopardize my flight. Anything else is secondary."
Although Heijst does not have any formed theories on what those unexplained objects could be, he does hope it brings up clarity between colleagues.
He said, "even rational explanations of some of the sightings might help other pilots to identify some spectacular, but mundane things they see from above.
"We might actually stumble on rare and new atmospheric phenomena, but the only way we can be sure is to collect data and analyze it without bias," he continued.
"Some of my colleagues have seen some truly extraordinary things during their career, but they only discussed it with me once they felt they wouldn't be [ridiculed]. Getting rid of the stigma is a process that takes time, but we're getting there," he added.
