19-year-old Jeremiah Clyde Hartline blamed his crash on chasing zombies after he emerged from a serious highway accident on Sunday.

According to California Highway Patrol, Jeremiah Clyde Hartline was kicked out of his home when truck driver Daniel Martinez welcomed him into his tractor trailer filled with strawberries for temporary shelter.

Later, Daniel Martinez stopped his truck at an inspection site to fill out paperwork, leaving Hartline alone in his 18-wheeler. Shockingly, Hartline stole the truck and drove off.

Eventually, Jeremiah Clyde Hartline crashed the tractor trailer on the highway and was arrested in Temecula, California. Hartline crashed into several cars, injuring four people.

According to Jeremiah Clyde Hartline, he started the truck in an attempt to flee from zombies.

"He thought zombies were chasing him and clinging to the truck," Officer Nate Baer said to CNN.

Hartline swerved the truck side to side to shake the zombies off."

Crashing the big rig, Hartline exited the truck and tried to hail for a ride from a passing van. Instead, the van driver handed Hartline to the authorities.

Obviously, zombies are not real. What really caused Jeremiah Clyde Hartline to steal and wreck a tractor trailer?

According to the California Highway Patrol, Jeremiah Clyde Hartline had taken hard substances that caused him to hallucinate.

However, Officer Nate Baer did not confirm what illicit substance Hartline used.

Jeremiah Clyde Hartline is charged with six offenses, including vehicle theft, reckless driving, and assault with a deadly weapon. Jeremiah Clyde Hartline pleaded not guilty.
