"Hi, I'm trying to adopt out my three-year-old son. I'm not in a good place in my life and don't feel like I can care for him properly, but I don't know where to start. If you or know anyone who is interested in caring for him please let me know. I'm a single mom and can't do this. Thanks, Desperate."
You can all close your jaws now. And yes, that was a real message posted on Craigslist by 29-year-old Texas mom Stephanie Christine Redus earlier in May.
The posting has since been removed after Houston police subpoenaed the webpage to reveal the poster's identity, so they could locate Redus. Her three-year-old has been placed in the care of his father as police investigate the situation.
Stephanie Redus claims she was overwhelmed because she suffers from depression and anxiety and is not able to take her medication because she's pregnant with her second child.
"The defendant stated that she did make the post but never intended to give the child up for adoption," Houston Police Officer D. Thomas stated in the complaint, according to the Houston Chronicle. "The defendant responded that she is pregnant and has not been able to take her medication to combat her depression and anxiety."
According to KVUE, Redus spoke to the police about the Craigslist adoption posting, admitting to placing the ad, but said she never intended to give up her child. Redus says she only spoke to one person, asked if they had any additional children and requested to see pictures of their home.
She is being charged with advertising for placement of a child, and scheduled to appear in court at the end of the month.
