Legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal retirement home reportedly has almost doubled to £17 million ($20 million) in value.
The building, which Ronaldo, 37, will share with long-time partner Georgina Rodriguez, 28, together with their five children, is situated in Quinta da Marinha, on the Portuguese Riviera. Quinta da Marinha is half an hour from Lisbon Airport and 10 minutes away from the center of the coastal town of Cascais, the Lisbon coastline's ultimate vacation spot.
According to a source, "He's strived for perfection throughout his soccer career and he wants the same off the pitch. He wants everything just right for him and his family. He's going to retire there once his career comes to an end and wants to be 100 per cent happy with it."
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner initially set aside £10 million ($12 million) for the lavish home, but the price has soared due to the cost of materials and Ronaldo's aim for perfection. Another insider said, "The initial budget was around £10 million ($12 million) but that is now £17million ($20 million). He spares no effort to ensure he and his loved ones are as happy and comfortable as possible. There have been some changes to the original project."
"But a lot of the price hike is to do with the increase in the cost of building materials. Everyone knows they've soared. It's a problem that's not just affected Portugal.
Construction has just started on the mansion, and the entire work on the property is expected to finish in late 2023. It will be the newest addition to the football star's property.
The Manchester United forward is believed to have plans to use the house as an investment. Meanwhile, popular magazine TV 7 Dias claimed he planned to use it as a family home after his retirement. A source described as a future neighbor told the magazine, "The land was fenced off recently and it was purchased by Ronaldo. This is where he's coming to live with his family when he finishes his career. Everyone round here knows it and of course we're happy. Ronaldo is Ronaldo."
Ronaldo's multiple properties include a seven-story apartment block overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in the Madeiran capital Funchal which he bought in 2019. His mother and older brother live at the property.
The former Juventus star spent time there with Rodriguez and their children after flying back to his native island following his mother's stroke in 2020. He later moved to a £3,500 ($4208)-a-week rented villa before flying back to Italy, where he had a luxurious villa. Also among Ronaldo's list of luxurious properties is a £4.8 million ($5.7 million) mansion in a gated fortress estate called La Finca near Madrid, where Gareth Bale also lives.
