Virginia authorities are alleging that it is possible that the "Shopping Cart Killer" was responsible for the deaths of at least four people.
On Friday, police said the suspect, Anthony Robinson, 35, of Washington, D.C., was previously charged with the murders of Allene Elizabeth "Beth" Redmon, 54, of Harrisonburg, and Tonita Lorice Smith, 39, of Charlottesville, 6ABC reported.
The victims' bodies were found in an open lot in the commercial district of Harrisonburg on Nov. 3. They added that the alleged serial killer may be linked to the deaths of two more women.
"We're here today to talk about a serial killer, and that is a phrase that I've used sparingly in my three decades in this profession," Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said in a press briefing.
According to Davis, the suspect preys on both the weak and vulnerable.
"Our shopping cart killer does unspeakable things with his victims, and it's our collective duty and responsibility to bring justice and closure to all of our communities," he added per the Daily Beast.
Authorities allege that the women were connected with Robinson through dating sites and might have met him on separate occasions at a hotel. Their corpses were found with blunt force trauma, with investigators believing they were transported to the scene in a shopping cart.
"After he inflicts trauma to his victims and kills them, he transports their bodies to their final resting place, literally in a shopping cart, and there's a video to that effect," Davis said.
Through video surveillance and cellphone records, cops secured a warrant to apprehend the suspect last month, tying him to the two victims, according to Harrisonburg Police Chief Kelley Warner.
He's been slapped with two counts of first-degree murder and two felony counts of concealing, transporting, or altering a dead body.
According to Fairfax County police, more charges will be laid in connection with the deaths of two more people, including Cheyenne Brown, 29, who were both found on Wednesday in Alexandria near the Moon Inn, People noted.
Following Robinson's arrest, Washington's Metropolitan Police Department contacted counterparts in neighboring areas and discovered that the man was the last known contact of Brown.
