One of the most highly anticipated sporting events in America kicked off on Friday with an opening game between Colombia and the U.S., which the South American team won 2-0.
As the excitement continues, fans are impatient to see their teams debut and this Sunday it’s the Mexicans and Uruguayans’ turn to cheer for their favorite players. As part of Group C, the two teams will clash at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona at 8 p.m. ET.
In terms of players to be on the lookout for, Mexico’s Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández is definitely one of them. The soccer superstar had to choose between playing at the Copa América Centenario and the Rio Olympics, and unlike Neymar, he chose the Copa, which will hopefully bring great results for the Mexican team. “I’m a cheeky player. I try to be there, and there, and there. And if you’re standing up, I’ll make it look like I’m moving this way – and then I move that way,” he said during a recent interview with Sports Illustrated.
As for the Uruguayan team, with Luis Suarez not playing due to an injury, there is a lot of weight falling on Edinson Cavani, who just had a great season with the Paris Saint-Germain, but just like last summer’s Copa, will be missing Suarez greatly. Diego Godin will also play a key part in defending Uruguay from ‘Chicharito’, after having an excellent season with the Atletico de Madrid, despite the bitter ending where the team lost in penalties against Real Madrid.
