Newly revealed journal entries from disgraced Mormon YouTuber Ruby Franke—who pleaded guilty to abusing her youngest children in late 2023—contain chilling details of the torture and abuse she inflicted on her children, who she believed were demonically possessed.
As revealed in Hulu's docuseries "Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke," police discovered the journal, which included disturbing entries describing physical punishments and psychological torment.
"Sleep outside, shaved her head, doused her with water, over his nose and mouth, head in the toilet, needs to be painful. Blood on his face, scream and scream," one entry read.
"I told the boy, he emulates a snake. If he wants to emulate the Savior... The body must engage in good work and the good works need to be painful," read another entry. "I have the power of God and he must obey."
Franke, once known for her strict parenting YouTube channel "8Passengers", admitted to punishing her two youngest children with torture as part of a plea agreement. She was arrested in August 2023 after her 12-year-old son escaped their home and begged a neighbor for help. Police later found her 9-year-old daughter malnourished and restrained inside.
The abuse reportedly worsened under Jodi Hildebrandt, Franke's ex-business partner and founder of the religious social media network ConneXions. Both women pleaded guilty and were sentenced to four consecutive sentences to last a maximum of 30 years, with the final term to be decided by the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole.
