A new action-thriller, "3 Days To Kill," hit the screens on Feb. 21 featuring Kevin Costner as an international spy, who is trying to leave his dangerous life for a better one with his daughter (Hailee Steinfeld) and estranged ex-wife (Connie Nielsen). The movie, which also stars Amber Heard, was directed by "This Means War" director, McG.
"In this heart pounding action-thriller, Kevin Costner is a dangerous international spy, who is determined to give up his high stakes life to finally build a closer relationship with his estranged wife and daughter, whom he's previously kept at arm's length to keep out of danger," teases the synopsis. "But first, he must complete one last mission -- even if it means juggling the two toughest assignments yet: hunting down the world’s most ruthless terrorist and looking after his teenage daughter for the first time in ten years, while his wife is out of town."
Latin Times got to speak with actress Connie Nielsen -- who is playing the female lead on the current season of "The Following" -- about why she wanted to be a part of the movie, her favorite parts and what it was like working with Costner.
Latin Times: What made you want to be a part of this movie?
Connie Nielsen: It was one of those things where just reading the script was fun. It was a fun read and it was a super good story. And then, it was anchored in this real heart. And, you know, the character was so sweet and funny and really kind of crucial in what goes on in Kevin Costner's character's life.
LT: What is your favorite part about this film?
CN: I love the combination of action and fun, and yet being anchored inside something we all respond to, which is love and family. And also, in a fun way, it addresses really important issues such as trust, for example. So, I think, all in all, a lot of people who are married will look at this movie and say, "I know that situation," even though it is set in a fantastical world of action and fun.
LT: Is this your first time working in the action genre?
CN: This is not my first time doing action, but it's definitely my first time doing a funny action movie. And I love the physical comedy of it and there were a lot of things that were fun to do. The scenes were fun to play out and I really enjoyed the process.
LT: What was it like working with Kevin Costner and McG?
CN: Kevin is such a serious actor. He thinks everything through and yet, is able to be impulsive and happening in the moment. I was taken with how taken with how elegant he was during the stunts--he was just really so good at it. And then there's this genuine good person behind this genuine family guy that you also see. He's just an all-round amazing guy.
And McG is really fun. He has this natural exuberance and joy for work. He's constantly excited by the work he's doing and gets you excited too, which I think is incredibly important thing for a director to be able to do. To excite you and gets you to give more and more, but also, he sustains you and supports the actors. You can tell he really appreciates actors and the process we go through. It was a sheer pleasure working with him.
LT: You're familiar with acting both on television and in the movies, do you have a preference?
CN: I think movies are book-ended and I really love the fact that you get the chance to see these characters and live in this fantasy. And then you go home. I love the book-ended part of it. But I also love the open-ended, long term exploration of characters that TV allows you to do.
LT: If you could tell fans one thing about this movie--what they can expect--what would it be?
CN: They can expect to be absolutely surprised and to sit and chuckle, and really enjoy these characters.
