Jerry Seinfeld's fun new series, "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee," airs its season finale tonight and it ends in the most awesome way possible -- Jerry Seinfeld and Michael Richards of Kramer fame reunite before a camera once again.
Some of you may remember Michael Richards performing a stand-up at LA's Laugh Factory back in 2006. Deeply enraged by hecklers that interrupted his show, Richards lashed out rather furiously, shouting racially offensive remarks that caused a media frenzy that deeply impacted Richards' career and even his personal life. After a prolonged withdrawal from the public eye, it's refreshing to see Richards and his unique sense of humor once again.
As per CiCGC style, the cars are never the star. Rather, Seinfeld seems to be rather adept at selecting cars that really complement the personality of his guests. For this episode, Seinfeld brings out a 1962 Volkswagen Split Window double-cab bus. Complete with a rusty patina and a rather shoddy duct tape interior, this particular van was actually a reliable service truck for a Volkswagen/Porsche repair shop in Cambell, California. Given its humble origins, aged appearance, and a rather spunky personality, Seinfeld knew it was the car for Richards.
"I want to get your reaction, unvarnished, to this vehicle that i've chosen specifically for you."
"OH GOSH! That's.... I love it. No, I like it."
Discussing everything from Sugar Ray Leonard to Michael Richards' doppelgänger, it was Seinfeld and Richards' rather insightful reflection on their work in the hit sitcom Seinfeld that really stood out.
While the chemistry between Jerry Seinfeld and Michael Richards is certainly natural, Richards admits that while there are performers that just "love it," performance always posed as a struggle for him. "Sometimes I look back at the show [Seinfeld], and I think I should've enjoyed myself more."
