Columbia Protester 'Self-Deported' Days After Her Student Visa Was Revoked for 'Advocating for Terrorism'

A Columbia student who was involved in protests advocating for Palestine on campus at Columbia University reportedly used the latest version of the US Customs and Border Protection to "self-deport" after her student visa was revoked.

Indian national Ranjani Srinivasan was a doctoral student in Urban Planning at Columbia University when her F-1 student visa was revoked on March 5 for being involved in pro-Palestine activity on campus, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

"Srinivasan was involved in activities supporting Hamas, a terrorist organization," DHS said.

On March 11, Srinivasan used the CBP Home app to "self-deport", with video footage of her doing so being published to social media by Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem.

"It is a privilege to be granted a visa to live and study in the United States of America. When you advocate for violence and terrorism that privilege should be revoked, and you should not be in this country. I am glad to see one of the Columbia University terrorist sympathizers use the CBP Home app to self-deport," said Noem in a statement.

According to the DHS, the recently launched CBP Home app includes a self-deportation reporting tool for undocumented immigrants physically present within the United States. This is to encourage voluntary departure over forcible removal and other more traditional deportation methods.
