A Temple University student was arrested after allegedly impersonating a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in an attempt to gain access to a campus residence hall, authorities said.
The incident unfolded Saturday night in Philadelphia, where campus police say two individuals wearing shirts labeled "Police" and "ICE" were reported at a business. A third person was seen recording their actions, as reported by FOX29.
All three also attempted to enter Johnson & Hardwick Residence Hall but were denied access, authorities said. One of the individuals was identified as a Temple University student and has since been arrested.
"It is deeply troubling and disappointing to know behavior like this reportedly occurred on our campus," Temple police told the outlet.
Details about the other two individuals involved have not been released, including their identities or potential charges.
The incident comes amid increasing immigration enforcement. Just days earlier, an ICE raid was reported at a Philadelphia car wash amid Trump's push to detain and deport large numbers of undocumented individuals.
Temple University has reassured students that no verified ICE presence has been reported on campus. The investigation remains ongoing, and the arrested student has been placed on interim suspension as authorities determine next steps.
Immigrants across the US are on edge as ICE has arrested about 7,400 people in just nine days without clear justification for those targeted.
While officials have spotlighted a few high-profile cases, little information has been shared about the thousands of others detained, per The New York Times. This lack of transparency raises concerns about the extent to which the crackdown is prioritizing criminal offenders.
