Shortly after Paul Stanley announced he was leaving Univision’s “Despierta America” on December 31, last year, the network confirmed that CNN Español’s experienced journalist Ismael Cala would be joining the DA team in the first month of this year. “I’m so happy and excited to join Univision’s “Despierta América” family,” said the 45-year-old Cuban communicator through a statement. Cala’s first day on the show was January 12 as he joined co-hosts Alan Tacher, Ximena Córdoba, Johnny Lozada, Ana Patricia, Karla Martínez and Satcha Pretto on the 7:00 am transmission.

Cala is also known for being a motivational speaker, which is precisely what he plans to be bringing to the table for the show’s audience; he plans to share his personal experiences and advice on personal growth. “I’m joining the team with the purpose of sharing my passion for matters such as human development, personal growth and leadership with the audience; contributing with key tools to achieve successful lives, business and personal relationships,” he assured. The anchor also uses a play on words with his last name and said “Juntos vamos a ‘esCALAr’ al próximo nivel”, which means “Together we will ‘climb’ to the next level.”

Although Stanley leaving and Cala joining come at very similar times, the network assures Cala is not there to replace Stanley, or even to be one of the main hosts of the show. He will only have a motivational speaking segment and continue his work with CNN Español for the time being. “I will continue working for CNN Español; in fact i have to thank them for the trusting me and supporting my diversification as a communicator through Cala Enterprises where we develop leadership, personal growth and spirituality content,” said Cala.
