The 2013 Country Music Awards proved to be one of the most entertaining in recent years. Thanks to a tremendous job by hosts and country icons Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood, each person in attendance and the millions more watching from home had the opportunity to enjoy some off-the-cuff sketch comedy -- including a hilarious skit on the many shortcomings of Obamacare -- while also taking in many of the top performers the genre offers today. Fantastic appearances by Rascal Flatts, Jason Mraz, Zac Brown Band, Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line and Jason Aldean helped set the tone throughout the evening, leaving everyone involved with the 47th Annual Country Music Awards completely satisfied.

The 23-year-old Taylor Swift -- a two-time Country Music Entertainer of the Year award winner -- and rising star Kacey Musgraves held a total of six nominations each heading into the ceremony with the ever-popular Miranda Lambert owning five nominations. The nominees for Single of the Year created an interesting category as well, with Florida Georgia Line ('Cruise'), Tim McGraw feat. Taylor Swift and Keith Urban ('Highway Don't Care'), Miranda Lambert ('Mama's Broken Heart'), Darius Rucker ('Wagon Wheel') and Kacey Musgraves ('Merry Go 'Round') all worthy of the high honor.

Another interesting category that always evokes the full attention of the country music world dealt with the categories of Male and Female Vocalist of the Year. With George Strait taking home Entertainer of the Year, many fans wondered if Blake Shelton would win his fourth-consecutive honor. As it turned out, the 37-year-old native of Ada, Oklahoma won the 2013 Male Vocalist of the Year honor, taking the top honor over the popular Luke Bryan, Keith Urban, Eric Church and Jason Aldean.

Shelton's wife, 29-year-old Amanda Lambert, also continued her recent dominance in the Female Vocalist of the Year category. Thanks to the popularity of 'Mama's Broken Heart,' Lambert reeled in her fourth-straight award, matching the recent dominance of her husband. Lambert beat out Taylor Swift -- who was presented with the 2013 Pinnacle Award for overall achievement and excellence in the field of Country Music -- Carrie Underwood, Kacey Musgraves and Kelly Clarkson for the top prize.
