A few weeks ago, it seemed like “The Voice” season finally was going to be an event of epic proportions, and while it might still be great, there won’t be a Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston hologram duet any longer.
While sources had confirmed the exciting news, it was reportedly because of technical issues that Houston’s hologram was not ready for a performance like this.
“[I am] honored that the Houston family asked me to perform a duet with the legendary Whitney Houston. Sadly, the technology could not meet up to the talent that Whitney possessed, but I do know in time the performance the fans and I have been hoping for will come to life,” Xtina said through a statement.
The late diva’s sister Pat Houston, who is on board to produce the Whitney’s hologram world tour explained the decision had nothing to do with Aguilera, but with time and technical issues. “Holograms are new technology that take time to perfect, and we believe with artists of this iconic caliber, it must be perfect. Whitney’s legacy and her devoted fans deserve perfection,” she said. “We have much respect and appreciation for Christina, and she was absolutely flawless,” Houston added.
Once again, NBC has not commented on the matter, nor have they announced what fans and viewers can expect from the show’s season finale on Tuesday, May 24.
A year ago, Hologram USA confirmed that they were working on the world tour in conjunction with Whitney’s sister Pat Houston. “The show will be interactive and feature the singer's greatest hits alongside as-yet-unannounced special guests,” Rolling Stone reported.
However, the hologram has been quite controversial and hasn’t been used for a full concert or tour just yet, so it is still uncertain if the network executives are willing to risk it with Houston’s fans.
