Christina Aguilera stopped by the set of Netflix’s new talk show “Chelsea” to have a little chat with host Chelsea Handler and to promote her new project “MasterClass.”
Xtina, who was the first female coach to win “The Voice” last Tuesday, recently announced she will not be returning to the judge panel for season 11, but she will continue to mentor aspiring artists through her online course.
“This class is for all the artists out there trying to find their voice,” Aguilera said in a press release earlier this month. “I’m proud to share through ‘MasterClass’ my love for music and all of the vocal techniques I’ve learned throughout the years.”
After sharing details about her new venture with Chelsea, the 35-year-old performer agreed to take on Chelsea as one of her students and proceeded to give her a singing lesson in front of a live studio audience.
“I want to warn you, I have a really bad…I’m not a great singer. So, if you can help me in any way,” Chelsea told Xtina before the lesson began. “The song that I sing most frequently is ‘Happy Birthday’ because I have to with other people at parties.”
“Fair enough. Ok. Classic. Everybody knows it,” Aguilera replied. “I will sing it how I would sing it, but my style of singing is a little more bluesy flair, soulful, ‘cause that’s just my passion, and we are going to find your passion and your genre.”
From that point on, Christina did everything in her power to make Chelsea hit a big note while singing the popular birthday anthem. After several approaches and diverse technique attempts, the mother of two opted to choose the “Marilyn Monroe” technique: breathy.
