Christina Aguilera is reportedly in talks with Disney for a possible soundtrack in the live-action remake of “Mulan.” But here’s the interesting part — she’s allegedly making negotiations difficult due to her diva demands, if a recent tabloid report is to be believed.
The report came from Star magazine, which claims that Aguilera is demanding quite a hefty paycheck for her involvement, according to Gossip Cop. While Disney wants the singer and songwriter on board, Star reported that the company is hesitating since the figure she’s asking is a bit too much, considering the amount of her effort.
“They want Christina on board to a point, but she’s expecting a seven-figure paycheck for doing very little — and they expect her to work for it,” the publication cited an unnamed source supposedly privy to the details of the negotiations.
The report said that Disney wants Aguilera to, at the very least, come up with one original song for the live-action “Mulan” soundtrack. However, the singer allegedly only wants to record a song that’s already in the 1998 animated movie.
The source believes that Aguilera seemed to have overestimated herself this time. “She thinks that, as one of the company’s most famous former child stars, she’s in the driver’s seat here — but she couldn’t be more wrong,” the suspicious tipster added.
Sensing something fishy with the story, Gossip Cop did its own checking to gauge its veracity. After doing its checks, the publication concluded that “it’s completely made-up.”
Aguilera’s rep told the fact-checking site that the story has “zero truth” to it. Meanwhile, the site also got in touch with another source who confirmed that, contrary to Star’s premise, there are no talks between Disney and Christina for a possible soundtrack deal.
What is true, however, is that there really is an upcoming live-action remake of “Mulan.” Its cast includes Chinese actress Liu Yifei, who will portray the main character Mulan.
However, the movie is not a musical, which means that fans can only expect instrumental versions of the animated movie’s soundtrack as background music in some scenes. The advantage for this setup is that, unlike the animated version, moviegoers this time won’t be distracted by all the singing.
