Christian Bale was unrecognizable in a photograph taken at LAX on May 19. "The Dark Knight" star was traveling with his wife and daughter trying to keep a low profile.

Bale was sporting a new look for a new film he has been working on. While usually well groomed and muscular with short brown hair, Christian Bale was unrecognizable sporting a paunch and a completely shaved head.

US Weekly says that Christian Bale was photographed the day prior to his unrecognizable pic filming a scene alongside Amy Adams. The pair costar in the 1970s drama "American Hustle" directed by David O'Russell.

Christian Bale is famous for his dedication to the roles that he plays. Bale will often drastically alter his body in an effort to immerse himself into a particular character.

For the 2004 movie "The Machinist" Christian Bale lost over 63 pounds for his role. For "Batman Begins" Bale had to quickly gain back all the muscle mass he lost from "The Machinist" in order to play the crime fighting hero.

For "The Fighter," Bale again lost a lot of weight in order to portray Dicky Eklund, a former boxer turned drug addict.

Christian Bale's new unrecognizable look could possibly be for his new role in "American Hustle." Christianpost.com reports that Bale had to undergo this transformation to play Melvin Weinberg in the film.

Bale's character is a con man turned FBI worker. Christiantoday.com says "Weinberg had taken part in a sting operation that led to several U.S. congressmen's conviction in the 1970's."

"American Hustle" will hit theaters late 2013 and also stars Bradley Cooper ("The Hangover"), Jennifer Lawrence ("Silver Linings Playbook") Jeremy Renner ("The Avengers") and Robert De Niro ("Goodfellas").
