Warner Bros. is getting ready to release the "Dark Knight" trilogy on Blu-Ray Tuesday September 24. The Blu-Ray package will feature never before seen footage including Christian Bale's audition tape for the role of Batman. Fans were disappointed when Bale decided it was time for him to hang up the cowl and let another actor take on the role of Batman. Ben Affleck will become the Dark Knight for the sequel to the Superman movie "Man of Steel." In the new footage from the 2005 film "Batman Begins" we see Christian Bale wearing Val Kilmer's Batman suit from his days as the hero, opposite Amy Adams.
Amy Adams was not in any of the three Chris Nolan, Christian Bale Batman films, but she was featured in the audition tapes acting in the role of Rachel that would later be given to Katie Holms. Adams was apparently doing the casting director a favor by stepping in. "Well the testing process on this kind of performance, this kind of character, it's not about acting ability or chemistry or any of those things," said Christopher Nolan in the commentary. The "Dark Knight" director. "It's about being able to project this extraordinary iconography really from the inside, this visual iconography."
"Christian, somehow he'd figured this out before the screen test," Nolan continued. "That you could not give a normal performance, you could not give an ordinary performance. You had to project this massive energy through this costume in order to not question the costume. So it's about feeling in a voice and I think Christian's voice is a big part of the impression he made. He decided that Batman needed to have a different voice to Brue Wayne, that he needed to put on a voice," Nolan said. "That supported the visual appearance of the character. And explained why people don't recognize him from his voice."
For his audition Christian Bale wore the same Batman suit veteran actor Val Kilmer wore in the 1995 movie "Batman: Forever." Christian Bale has disputed claims that he auditioned for the role of Robin in the 1995 movie only to be beaten out by actor Chris O'Donnell. Several actors auditioned and screen tested for the role of Batman in the 2005 reboot. One such actor includes Cillian Murphy who played Dr. Crane a.k.a the Scarecrow in "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight Rises."
