For months there has been so much speculation over whether or not the plans for the Jenni Rivera biopic would go through, and who was going to play the coveted role of La Diva de la Banda. Angelica Vale, Alicia Machado and even Jennifer Lopez were said to be cast as the late Jenni, but not even the Rivera family had made up their minds if they wanted the biopic or not. Now they know, and have decided to keep it all in the family, and we actually like that choice. Janney Marín, better known as Chiquis Rivera, will make her film debut playing her mother, Jenni.
She confirmed to Univision that she was given the green light on the role, and now that the whole Rivera family is on board for this "official" film, they're offering their full support. Chiquis will give life to Jenni at the peak of her career, according to Univison, and in preparation for her role, the young Rivera is taking acting and singing classes. Another Jenni Rivera production is in the works, but that one is not approved by the family. Andres Arreola is the producer of this 10-episode television series, featuring Itati Cantoral. However, the leading lady was recently fired for her excessive drinking and diva behavior.
Nevertheless, we're overly excited that the Rivera family finally made up their minds and that Chiquis, who looks a lot like her mother, will play La Gran Señora, marking the beginning of pre-production for the official biopic. Although it might be very emotional for Chiquis, who's had trouble dealing with the death of her mother, this could also be a great way to channel all that energy and deliver an outstanding performance.
Jenni Rivera died on December 9, 2012. She was returning from a concert in front of 17,000 people in Monterrey, Mexico, when the plane she was in, along with other members of her crew, crashed, taking the life of La Diva de la Banda. Family, friends and fans were devastated by the news, since they all praised Jenni for being an example, a success story, and a dedicated mother and business woman.
