The hospitals in China indulged in abortion of late-stage pregnancies and also killed newborn Uighur babies to erase their culture, suggests an explosive claim made by a former Chinese doctor.
Hasiyet Abdulla is a Uighur doctor who worked for more than 15 years in hospitals in Xinjiang. He told a media outlet that the pregnancy of a Uighur female would be terminated if she had already reached the threshold for the maximum number of children. Abdulla now lives in Turkey.
She further said that pregnancy termination would happen for these women at a late stage, sometimes in the eighth and ninth months. Sometimes, the medical staff would kill the baby after they are born.
"They wouldn't give the baby to the parents — they kill the babies when they're born," she said during the interview. "It's an order that's been given from above, it's an order that's been printed and distributed in official documents. Hospitals get fined if they don't comply, so of course they carry this out."
It has been reported that more than 1 million Uighur Muslims have been captured in detention camps since 2016, which the Chinese government calls training and re-education camps. However, it is known that Uighur Muslims are forced to leave their culture, religion and heritage in those camps.
The government is also said to have been making efforts to drastically reduce the birth rate among Uighurs and also limiting their rights to reproduction.
China's one-child policy was removed in 2016. However, before that, the majority of Han Chinese citizens would be forced to undergo abortions and also use contraceptives to keep the birth rate low. However, minority communities, including Uighur Muslims were allowed to have two to three children.
The interview has surfaced after a series of reports briefing how the Chinese government is forcing Uighur females to undergo sterilization and even fitting some of them with intrauterine devices.
No one knows what exactly happens inside the Uighur detention camps. However, some say that they are made to sing propaganda songs to get themselves food, decorate their homes to look Chinese traditionally and also subjected to medical experiments.
