A zoo in China is getting serious flack regarding its barking "African lion." That is, the so-called lion actually turned out to be a Tibetan mastiff that exposed himself when he began barking while in his enclosure. Beijing Youth Daily, a state-run newspaper, reported that the Henan Zoo, located in the People's Park of Luohe, replaced most of its exotic critters with common animals. The snake cage contained two large rats and no snakes, while the leopard exhibit featured animals looking oddly similar to foxes.

The zoo was outed by some customers, one being a woman surnamed Liu, who told People's Daily that she wanted to show her son the different sounds animals made. When she got to the "lion" enclosure, the alleged wild cat was barking. The Tibetan mastiff boasts a large, furry coat that is golden yellow, which is reminiscent of a lion's mane.

The zoo is absolutely cheating us," Liu told the paper. "They are trying to disguise the dogs as lions."

According to the Verge, zoo officials claim the park does actually have a lion, but it has been moved to a separate facility for breeding. The zoo claimed that the dog was there for safety reasons and said it would change the incorrect signs as soon as possible.
