A childless Texas lawmaker is facing scrutiny after releasing a video ad featuring children who are not hers, leading the public to question the authenticity in political messaging.
Public debate around the ad began Friday after the Round Rock Republican featured State Rep. Caroline Harris Davila in a misleading ad to promote her reelection campaign against Democrat Jennie Birkholz, the Texas Tribune reported.
The ad in question features Davila and her husband smiling alongside four kids, who are not theirs, causing many to question the motive.
"Those aren't your kids weirdo," one user commented on X. Another tweeted, "Are you trying to mislead voters into thinking you have kids?"
Aside from featuring children that are not hers, Harris Davila's ad has come under fire after recent critical comments from fellow Republicans, such as Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance and Arkansas GOP Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who have targeted women without kids.
Both Vance and Sanders have made it a point to favor family and motherhood in political contexts.
Vance has repeatedly labeled and singled out Democratic women without biological children as "a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they've made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too," as reported by AP.
Huckabee Sanders has also taken jabs at Vice President Kamala Harris for not having children of her own.
"So my kids keep me humble. Unfortunately, Kamala Harris doesn't have anything keeping her humble," Sanders said, according to ABC.
