It was only last June that Charlize Theron and Sean Penn ended their 18-month relationship sparking a number of rumors amidst absolute media frenzy. Now, the Oscar-winning actress opened up about the circumstances in an interview with WSJ. “There is this need to sensationalize things,” Theron said. “When you leave a relationship there has to be some f—ing crazy story or some crazy drama.”
The South African actress, who is now a mother of two, also cleared up the rumors about Penn wanting to adopt her son Jackson at the time. “We were very, very new in a relationship,” she explained. “The stories saying that Sean was going to adopt Jackson and all of that were not true.” Theron went on to explain that the actor (and her son) always knew she was a single mom in a relationship, but that did not make Penn the father. She went on to say the actor was on-board with being “very careful and very honest.” “Sean was great with all of that,” she said.
In fact, the actress said she’s always known she wanted more than one child, and was very honest about it. “He knew that I was thinking about filing for another adoption but that we weren’t filing together,” Theron said. Apparently Penn wouldn’t be in a position to father the kids until things between the couple weren’t “what one would hope for.”
Another false rumor was that Charlize had reportedly “ghosted” on Penn, which means to completely disappear or abruptly cut off all contact assuming the relationship has ended. “The f—ing ghosting thing, like literally I still don’t even know what it is,” she said. “It’s just its own beast. We were in a relationship and then it didn’t work anymore. And we both decided to separate.”
The actor got involved with ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán through Mexican actress Kate del Castillo, to do an interview for Rolling Stone magazine, which didn’t amount to much, except to get him in deep trouble.
