It's been nearly a decade since we've last heard of Charlie Zaa ---at least in a studio production. The Colombian singer has been on a 9-year hiatus after the release of his 2009 album "De Bohemia." Now, he's making his musical comeback with his seventh studio production called "Mi Mejor Regalo" ---a tribute to the late Joan Sebastian.
"This is more than a comeback," Zaa told Latin Times during his promo week in Miami. "I want to once again touch the hearts of my fans, of all those people who have followed my career since 1996," the 41-year-old artist added.
"Mi Mejor Regalo" consists of 10 of Sebastian's renowned hits, which Zaa has transformed into lovely bachatas. "We focused a lot on Joan's golden age of three or four decades ago and his classics that were a hit in Colombia," he said of the songs that form part of the album such as "Me Gustas" and "Secreto de Amor." The first single off of Zaa's new album is "Un Idiota," a song which he describes as "beautiful." "It's about regretful man, who recognizes that he's lost the love of his life. It's not normal to see a man admit that he's wrong," he said of the song that's currently making the rounds.
"Mi Mejor Regalo," which will be released by Sony Music on November 13, was produced by Latin GRAMMY winner Sergio George, who believed that El Rey del Jaripeo's hits would best suit Zaa. The album, which was envisioned as a musical homage to Sebastian's career, was recorded between November 2014 and February 2015 ---five months before his death on July 13.
"I hope the album is well received by Joan Sebastian's fans and by my fans," he said, also adding that he hopes to embark a tour in 2016.
