Chappell Roan said recently that she does not feel a need to endorse Kamala Harris or any other presidential candidate because "there are so many issues" with the government.

"I have so many issues with our government in every way," the singer said in an interview with The Guardian. "There are so many things that I would want to change. So I don't feel pressured to endorse someone. There's problems on both sides. I encourage people to use your critical thinking skills, use your vote — vote small, vote for what's going on in your city."

Roan previously shared at the Governor's Ball festival in New York that the White House had invited her to perform at their Pride event, but she declined. She said, "We want liberty, justice and freedom for all. When you do that, that's when I'll come."

The singer later elaborated in an interview with Rolling Stone that she declined due to her disapproval of the United States' continued support of Israel and their assault in Gaza. She shared that she initially planned on accepting the invitation and using her time to read poetry by Palestinian women, but decided against the idea after discussing it with her publicist.

Roan has denied supporting Donald Trump either after some fans misunderstood the reason behind her decision to not visit the White House.

"No matter how you say it, people are still going to be pissed for fucking some reason," she told Rolling Stone. "I'm not going to go to the White House because I am not going to be a monkey for Pride. And thank God I didn't go because they just made a huge statement about trans kids a couple weeks ago."

Roan, who identifies as lesbian, has been a vocal supporter of LGBTQIA+ rights, inviting local drag queens to support her on her tour. When asked by The Guardian what changes she would like to see in U.S. elections this year, Roan responded, "trans rights. They cannot have cis people making decisions for trans people, period."
