The Paris Saint-Germain football club put together a great campaign throughout the 2012-2013 season while making headlines on multiple occasions.

Racing through their league schedule and playing well on all fronts, PSG won their first French title in 19 seasons.

The club will also say goodbye to one of the most influential footballers in the history of the sport when 38-year-old international superstar David Beckham retires following the conclusion of this season.

While the recent club championship and Beckham retirement have certainly been noteworthy, club manager Carlo Ancelotti has stirred up some publicity of his own in recent days.

According to BBC Sport, the 53-year-old manager put in a request with PSG to depart the team at the end of this season in hopes that he'd be able to join Real Madrid as manager since their coach Jose Mourinho is expected to leave at season's end.

"We had a meeting and I asked to leave the club," Ancelotti said to reporters this past weekend. "We now have to wait a few days for the club's response to decide my future and that of the club."

Ancelotti has one year remaining on his contract with PSG, the team he led to the club's first French title since 1994. Not eager to see his manager leave, PSG President Nasser al-Khelaifi addressed the situation with reporters.

"We've had discussions, he asked to leave for Real Madrid," Al-Khelaifi said to in an interview with bIN Sports TV. "I said that it's not possible because he has one more year on his contract."

Al-Khelaifi also noted that he was still reluctant to release Ancelotti even after Real Madrid approached him about the potential of hiring the coach. "They (Real) came and I discussed it with them," Al-Khelaifi said to reporters. "He's got a contract with us for one more year, for me, he's here next year."

While it is not expected Ancelotti will be relieved of his contractual duties with Paris Saint-Germain, the second-year PSG head coach is not shy about the mutual interest between himself and football powerhouse Real Madrid even though he has enjoyed his time with the French squad.

"I have options and Real Madrid is one of those," Ancelotti told ESPN. "It's not easy because I have a very good relationship with everyone (at PSG). It's not the right time to explain my reasons and maybe I will never explain."

Prior to his joining Paris Saint-Germain at the start of the 2011 season, Carlo Ancelotti enjoyed success with 5 other clubs including Reggiana, Parma, Juventus, Italian power AC Milan and England's Chelsea F.C.

In addition to the Ligue 1 title he won this season with PSG, Ancelotti enjoyed championships with both Milan and Chelsea, including the 2003 and 2007 Champions League title with AC Milan.
