"Battlestar Galactica" and "Riddick" star Katee Sackhoff says Marvel Studios has expressed interest in her for one of their upcoming films. Schmoes Know Podcast recently asked Sackhoff if Marvel had approached her about working with them in which she replied, "There's been some stuff going on. There's been a lot of checking of availability. ... I don't quite know exactly... There's been a lot of questions about the first quarter of next year."
"Avengers: Age of Ultron" will begin filming in the first quarter of 2014. Could it be that writer-director Joss Whedon is considering Sackoff, a genre TV veteran, for a role in his sequel? Fan consensus is that Sackoff might be up for the role of Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel and previously known as Ms. Marvel. Marvel reportedly has a script in development for a Ms. Marvel solo film. And as "Battlestar Galactica" fans already know Sackoff can play a badass pilot.
Another rumor from Marvel Studios producer Louis D'Esposito recently mentioned the idea of doing a Captain Marvel movie. It's all very vague though and here is just how vague we mean. D'Esposito told Coming Soon about the superheroine-led Marvel films:
"There's obviously a drumbeat that is banging louder and louder that we want a female lead superhero," he says. "... [W]e have strong female characters in our films from Black Widow to Pepper Potts to Peggy Carter and you never know. Maybe there's an offshoot film with one of them. Or Captain Marvel, you know?"
It's plausible but at this point it is still just a rumor. Still, our money is on "Avengers 2: Age of Ultron" which will begin filming early next year. And what a better place to introduce Carol Danvers for a Phase 3 Captain Marvel movie, right?
