A Florida man granted clemency by President Donald Trump on Monday for his role in the January 6 Capitol attack was arrested on federal gun charges today; just two days post-pardon.
Daniel Ball, 39, a convicted felon, was arrested Wednesday morning and is accused of unlawfully possessing a firearm in violation of federal law, according to court records as reported by ABC News.
Ball's indictment stems from an incident last summer in Florida, where prosecutors allege he was found in possession of a firearm despite having at least three prior felony convictions.
These convictions include a 2017 case of domestic violence battery by strangulation and two 2021 cases for the Capitol Insurrection involving resistance to law enforcement and battery on an officer, as reported by ABC News.
Ball was among the few defendants being held pretrial in connection with his January 6 case. Prosecutors alleged he used an explosive device against officers in the Lower West End Tunnel during the Capitol riot. Video evidence allegedly captured Ball participating in attempts to breach police lines and throwing "dangerous weapons" at officers, per court records.
In May 2023, a federal judge ruled that Ball posed a serious ongoing danger to the public and law enforcement if released. At that time, he was detained while awaiting trial on charges linked to his alleged role in the Capitol attack.
As of now, Ball has not entered a plea for the gun possession charge. An attorney representing Ball has not responded to ABC News' request for comment.
