Queen Elizabeth II has always tried to remain politically neutral all these years. However, some fans can’t help but speculate on whether or not members of the royal family, such as Prince Charles or Prince William, might be eligible for the UK government’s top post, the Prime Minister.

Based on the responses given to a similar question posted on Quora, it appears that royal family fans have different thoughts about the topic. For example, some believe that it’s possible for royals — even William — to gun for the PM post should they wish to do so.

“In short yes, Prince William (or anyone else) could technically become Prime Minister; if he managed to convince two Liberal Democrats and his Gran he would make a good one,” Thomas Wilson wrote on Quora.

However, another Quora user contradicted Wilson’s response by saying that William can’t become the PM. “William is one of the very few people who probably couldn’t. His brother, Harry, could though,” Mark Harrison wrote on the Q&A site.

The Quora user then went on to explain why the other royals, aside from Queen Elizabeth, just can’t become the Prime Minister. “The people who couldn’t are the Sovereign, and those who are realistically going to be King/Queen (Charles, William, George),” Harrison elaborated.

Indeed, there’s nothing that can officially stop Harry from running for the office as he passes all the requirements. “People wishing to stand as an MP must be over 18 years of age, be a British citizen or citizen of a Commonwealth country or the Republic of Ireland,” Express wrote.

But even if Harry can become the Prime Minister, someone within the family will likely dissuade him from doing it. “Harry could legally, but in practice wouldn’t, and his gran (The Queen) would almost certainly try to talk him out of it,” Harrison added.

Even palace insiders don’t think that Harry will participate in politics. “It’s very unlikely, the reason being since Prince Charles the royals don’t get involves in politics, for obvious reasons,” royal butler Grant Harrold told Express. “He would never run for prime minister, I wouldn’t think so.”
