Brazil has chosen its third most experienced team in World Cup history to compete in the 2022 FIFA World Cup which is going to be held in Qatar from Nov. 20 to Dec. 18.
Due to the extremely dry weather and possible heat conditions, FIFA has authorized 26 players to be available for each team in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Of the 26 players chosen by Brazil's coach Tite, 10 players have already competed in the World Cup tournaments in the previous years, Folha de S.Paulo reported.
Out of the 26 players chosen by Tite, Alisson, Ederson, Danilo, Daniel Alves, Marquinhos, Thiago Silva, Casemiro, Fred, Neymar, and Gabriel Jesus have already competed in the Championship before. With the exception of Daniel Alves, who played in the 2010 and 2014 World Cups, all other 9 players were present in the 2018 championship.
This is going to be Thiago Silva's fourth World Cup after he competed in the championships in 2010, 2014, and 2018. Meanwhile, Neymar, who played in the 2014 and 2018 championships, will be playing his third World Cup.
“Experience counts, as well as the moment, the athlete’s ability to concentrate. A series of factors are taken into account. The entire career and the level that is maintained”, said Tite after releasing the list of players, to explain his choices.
Brazil is the only country to have participated in all the World Cups in history. Out of all these years, only twice has Brazil registered more players with experience in the tournament. Twelve experienced players played in the 2006 World Cup. Meanwhile, 14 players from the 1958 campaign played in the 1962 World Cup.
Couth Tite said that using a base that was present in 2018 is natural and added that he only stayed for the Qatar Cup because of what he presented in Russia in 2018. He added that the preference in the players was for versatility to have players who can play different roles and give tactical options within the matches.
“Danilo, yesterday [domingo], played defender and can play full-back. The Militant too. We have versatile players in defense and upfront, we have [atletas] with more and more performance in their clubs. It is a balanced but qualitative team. The quality of the athletes allows us to make these choices,” he added.
