Camilla Parker Bowles and Prince Charles have a very controversial relationship. People around the world know that they cheated on Princess Diana, so it was easy for everyone to condemn the couple. Despite this, Charles and Camilla were able to get married later on.

Following the tragic death of the Princess of Wales in 2007, the public started to slowly accept Prince Charles and Camilla’s relationship. However, it was revealed that the Duchess of Cornwall’s family was not fond of the prince, and her father, in particular, was against his relationship with her daughter.

Bruce Shand, the duchess’ father, hated the prince that he strongly opposed their union. He didn’t want Queen Elizabeth’s eldest son to marry his daughter because he believed that the prince ruined his daughter’s life. He was also aware of their affair and was not happy about it, especially with what it did to his daughter.

As per the Globe, a source said that Shand never respected Prince Charles and even told him to leave his daughter alone. But the former officer in the British Army, who fought in World War II, had a change of heart after having an honest talk with the future king.

“At a private meeting, Shand scolded Charles for ruining his daughter’s life, reducing the prince to tears,” the so-called source told the publication. “Shand ordered Charles to man up and show some honor and decency. He reminded the prince he was sleeping with another man’s wife which was a disgrace to the Monarchy and his role as a leader in the Church of England.”

The source allegedly went on to say that Camilla’s father also told the prince that her daughter’s husband was the better man. The duchess was once married to Andrew Parker Bowles from 1973 to 1995, and this was the man whom Camilla’s dad had approved of from the beginning.

In any case, after the emotional confrontation, a few more meetings between Shand and the prince had taken place. And eventually, the elderly decided to set aside his ill feelings toward Prince Charles so that his daughter could be happy. He gave them his permission to marry, and he attended their wedding in 2005.
