ABC Family's ballet drama, "Bunheads," is canceled after just one season of airing. An ABC Family spokesperson told TheWrap in a statement.

"'Bunheads' is a wonderful series that we are very proud to have aired. The series had amazing storytelling, the most talented cast and a passionate and loyal fan base. Recognizing all of this, we took extra time to try and find ways to bring the series back for another season, but in the end it simply wasn't possible. We wish the cast and crew the best in their future endeavors."

The ballet dramedy created by Lamar Damon and Amy Sherman-Palladino who also created "Gillmore Girls" lasted one season, wrapping that season in February after premiering in June 2012 and getting an order for additional episodes in August 2012. The plot of the show according to IMDb says:
Michelle, a Las Vegas showgirl marries a man on a whim and moves to his sleepy coastal town where she winds up working alongside her new mother-in-law at her dance school.

Broadway vet Sutton Foster and Sherman-Palladino favorite Emily Bishop mourned the decision after one little-watched but much-loved season. The creator and some of the cast tweeted their feelings after getting the sad news.
