The Mexican government is pledging 160 million Pesos or roughly $12 million dollars to fight bullying in Mexico. Roberto Campa Cifrián, Undersecretary for Public Participation and Crime Prevention of the Secretariat of Government (SG), revealed the plan which includes 547 projects around the country and explained that the government would be working in conjunction with the Secretary for Public Education (SEP) to implement the plan nationaly.
Roberto Campa Cifrián, warned, however, that it is necessary to define "limits" in schools but not villify them. "It is important to visualize this problem; it would be a mistake to hide it. However, it is clearly inconvenient to demonize schools because, especially in the most violent areas of the country, schools are a place of protection that we need to improve," he said. He also explained the many forms of bullying, from students who tease or give hurtful nicknames to people who spread rumors "and colleagues who have become drug or alcohol abusers."
The second premise of the plan is that violence is a symptom of what happens in the external environment and reflects the problems of family and community violence. The third, which should be encouraged particularly in school violence, is an effective means for the peaceful resolution of conflicts. He said the current information is not up to date and is therefore insufficient and inconsistent: a comprehensive strategy that involves the entire school community (students, teachers, administrators and parents) is required.
