The recently released ITV documentary 'Harry & Meghan: An African Journey' has sparked many comments and theories. But the one that has triggered major controversy is the claims of the couple's anonymous advisor who said that Meghan and Harry had "single-handedly modernised the monarchy" in a now controversial CNN interview. To say that the Buckingham Palace is not pleased with the comment would be an understatement.
The comment has been interpreted by many as being insulting and criticizing the other members of the royal family. Amidst the speculations of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shifting to the United States of America permanently, these comments from the couple’s advisor were perceived by Buckingham Palace as attacks on its integrity.
The anonymous advisor even openly accused the royal courtiers of being “afraid of and inexperienced at how to best help harness and deploy” Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as well as for triggering hysteria against the couple.
In an attempt to rest the issue, a “senior Buckingham Palace aide” commented: “There’s enough experience here, despite what was said, to know that people jumping in with comments from the sanctity of being unnamed and unidentifiable might think they are helping. But the family is clear that if there are issues to be discussed they will be discussed behind closed doors.”
The ensuing controversy took place after the release of the couple’s ITV documentary in which they discussed the struggles of negative media coverage with Tom Bradby.
During the ITV documentary, Prince Harry admitted to being on a “different path” from Prince William, apparently confirming rumours of a cooling of relations between the two brothers.
Harry and Meghan also shared their plans of taking a six-week break from Royal duties for some “much-needed family time”, with the chances of them leaving the UK in future. The couples’ plans has triggered a massive public debate and speculations over their role in the royal family in the future, especially over Prince Harry’s statement of how he is on a "different path" than his elder brother, William, and having both “good days and bad days” with him.
