A young Minneapolis mother is facing second-degree murder charges for allegedly bludgeoning her newborn baby boy in a drunken rage after texting an unidentified person that she was “bout to kill” the infant and expressed her intentions to “choke him” to death.
Addison Perdew, 23, has been taken into custody in Dakota County and charged with second-degree murder after police stumbled upon her in a drunken stupor, vomiting inside her Seward neighborhood home on Friday with the bruised corpse of her 2-month-old child in another room, according to CBS Local Minnesota.
The authorities were confronted with the gruesome discovery after a welfare check on the home. They arrived to find a distraught Perdew vomiting uncontrollably after she allegedly downed an entire bottle of pills, a mostly empty bottle of Bacardi was also found on the scene.
The responding police found the newborn's naked remains on a bed at the back of the unit, showing visible signs of trauma, extensive bruises on the child's arms, legs, torso, and head, with dried blood around his mouth and nose. The child was reportedly found dead and cold to the touch, reported KSTP.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has ruled the baby's death a homicide by multiple blunt force injuries.
According to the complaint, law enforcement were summoned to the home by a concerned individual after Perdew wrote in text messages that she was “bout to kill him” and “gonna choke him,” referring to her newborn child.
In a similar but unrelated story, a Connecticut mother has been charged with first-degree manslaughter after she allegedly suffocated her 1-month-old baby to death with a blanket on Wednesday, Nov. 17.
Crystal Czyzewski, a 35-year-old woman from Griswold, Connecticut, called police officers on Wednesday to report that her baby had stopped breathing. She said that the baby looked pale and that stuff was coming out of their nose, prompting emergency responders to come to her home quickly, according to Law&Crime.
After being stabilized in a local hospital, the child was sent to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, where the infant was resuscitated, though unable to breathe on their own. Czyzewski did not visit the hospital, and the child died on Sunday, Nov. 21.
Suspicious about the case, a child abuse and neglect team was brought out to inspect the baby, though their findings proved to be inconclusive. Czyzewski’s mother Linda Kennison claimed that they left the baby unattended on a swing before later finding the child to be dying with white stuff coming out of their nose.
However, when Czyzewski was interrogated, she admitted that she was stressed out and frustrated about the baby and that there was a point where her 5-year-old and the baby were crying at the same time, so she pressed a blanket on top of the child for 20 minutes until she thought the baby had died, NBC Connecticut reported.
Czyzewski put the baby on a swing afterward, and after a failed attempt at making the baby look alive by putting food in their mouth, Kennison convinced Czyzewski to cover up the baby’s death so that the 5-year-old child that survived would not be taken away by authorities.
Czyzewski has been charged with first-degree manslaughter and risk of injury to a child with her bond set at $500,000, while Kennison has yet to be charged or arrested by authorities.
